I'm eating salt and vinegar and shallot flavoured chips. Pretty different, the onion is a bit intense.
Craving a chocolat chaud but I've resited for days. I'm a STRONG WOMAN.
...
Anyway, back to blog related matters.
Today I went to the biggest markets in Europe. They are big. And I may have got lost a few times. It was very interesting, but I don't think I'd go back by myself, its a bit scary with people trying to grab you and stuff.
The outer layer of the markets is all like black rapper crap. Heaps of stalls that are all jamaica themed, and lots of puffer jackets and sneakers, its pretty off putting. This part is really packed.
Hashish pipe anyone? The place is filled with them...
This was a whole stall of hello kitty, it was so pink, I was very scared.
The vintage shopping (the original reason I came to the markets) is amazing. Its all proper vintage, so naturally it comes with a hefty price tag. This whole shop was filled with vintage show girl clothing, it was amazing, but no photos allowed in the store...
This fluffy dog was guarding the vintage store. He was so cute. There were so many puppies at the markets, it was bizarre since a lot of it is inside.
Another vintage store. I thought this phto was funny cause the dress looks like it has a crocodile on it. Glass is getting on my nerves.
Now this is my kinda mona lisa! This guy had some great paintings, all manipulations on the classics. Very expensive though.
BIRDCAGE BIRDCAGE BIRDCAGE!
.... Bit obsessed.
This shop was cute, all old tin toys. I love that retro style.
This vintage shop was filled with channel, YSL, and other amazing clothes. I might have drooled a little.
I did eventually find some vintage shops that were affordable, and bought a cute red and black jacket. Cheapcheap.
Heaps of taxidermy. But really, taxidermy Giraffe? Thats bizarre.
This store, with the car on top, was just for vintage jukeboxes. It was so cool! Mum can I bring one home?
This place had so many vintage beads. 16 euro for a cup full. Every colour imaginable. Very cool.
Need a crown? Sure. This was bizarre. The whole place was filled with so many antiques, from so many centuries. You could furnish your house here, with crazy antiques, and taxidermy giraffes.
My search for a garrison cap goes on without success, but these military hats are pretty amazing. I'm sure if I found the cap I wanted here, it would have been way out of my price range. After getting lost a few times, I decided to head back to the metro and move on. This is the place where the other part of my university is, so I'm sure I'll be seeing it a lot. I kow I barely scratched the surface of this market.
From here on its NSFW (not safe for work) and if you are easily offended please close this window. (its not that bad...)
I went searching for the musee de l'erotisme, the museum of erotic art. As I come up from the metro, the first thing I see is the Moulin Rouge, it was very random. It was surrounded with tourists just looking at it? I couldnt understand it so I took the photo and moved on.
Right next to the museum is this place, called the supermarket of sex. The place was huge, and big discount signs all over it. haha.
The museum itself is 6 floors, 2 of contemporary erotic art, and the rest looking at the history of erotic art.
I guess this was contemporary? It was very randomly placed in the middle of the room next to shoes made from genitals as well...
Some old sex machines were on display, but not much.
This one just had feathers attached to it.
This artist was Jean-Marc Laroche, and he sculpted some very interesting pieces. On the walls were some well shot photos of his works as well.
I like the more mechanical looking pieces.
There was another artist that did illustrations, but all her best ones are probably a bit too much for my audience.
Some of Edgar Degas monotypes of brothels.
I think she fell out of the painting.
The old sculptures were really great. And they had everything we studied at uni, the japanese woodblocks, the indian carvings, the african sculptures. They were great to see. Not sure what the deal with this one was. But I thought it was funny.
It was a good day to get out and about. Especially since the school week starts tomorrow, and I'm still yet to figure out what I'm supposed to do...
Time to start emailing some proffessors.
