Bruges.

Thursday last week I ventured into Bruges, an hour train ride from Brussels.
The place is pretty amazing, its much older than Brussels, and prettier too. They still have some canals functioning, but nothing like Amsterdam.

This was just across the road from the train station. You get straight into it.

The little cobblestone streets are so quiet its a nice change from the bustling cities.

Lots of big churches.

I liked the interesting statues and their placement.

Hidden little house.

Inside one of the big churches.

There were some old tombs under the church.

I think this is the church that is supposed to have a vile of Jesus blood, taken from Jerusalem in the 1100s.

There were chocolate shops everywhere! And with easter coming up, they had some really cool chocolate displays. I liked the rubber duckies.

Cuuute cupcakes!

Easter, much more simple.

Old buildings on the canals.

Beautiful moss covered turret.

A scuplture in one of the museum gardens.

Another big church thing.

Cuuuute sheeepies.

This was a funny display, I love the emotion on the chickens faces.

Stoner chip guy in the frites museum.

Mine are better because they are squishy, but i like the sauce.

Canal boat ride. Pretty much a boat like dads, with as many people they could fit on without it sinking... it was a bit concerning...

Swans!

The parks were lovely to stroll through.

I really liked bruges, but of course, I wore myself out walking everywhere, and buying chocolate.
Now it the second week of my spring break and I'm using it to recover from my busy fortnight. My poor knees need it.
I finally cleaned my apartment, and I'm starting a few little art projects to get me motivated to do some more embroidery. I should be studying my french like crazy because I only have one week of lessons left before my exam. And I suck at french.

Anyway, hope you are all well. If anyone wants to catchup, this is the week to do it, I'm on skype, or you can just email me, I dont mind. I miss you all!

Antwerp, some galleries.

Well, just two actually. But very impressive.
I went to the Modemuseum, the museum of fashion, which had a very interesting exhibition on called Unravelled. It was all about knit in fashion and types of knit.

These were crazy knit socks by Vivienne Westwood.

Phat knits made an appearence. Knit covered foam, then knitted. I wanted to jump on it, but I dont think the gallery attendants would have liked that.

Knit bathing suits..

This was by an artist who did a knit world. Knit food and flowers.

Knit christian louboutins!

This dress was amazing, so sculptural!

Knit patterns, Elsa Schiaparelli, and the cool knits of the 1920s.

1960s knit. I love the dress. Someone knit me it!

Karl Lagerfield dress. Combines the knitting needles and ball of wool with the piece.

Very textural red dress.

More phat knits. Not so phat, but the colour grading was beautiful.

After that Gallery I went for the long walk to Museum voor Hedendaagse Kunst Antwerpen (MuHKA)
The modern art museum of Antwerp.

They had a big exhibition on by some dudes that was supposed to be amazing, but ended up being orange yellow white and black strips painted on a floor with tape letters. I liked the idea about the interaction with the space, but it wasnt that inspiring. I liked this room though. The roof is interesting in context with the writing.

Some more interesting art. Pens and broken glasses.

These were very cool pieces by Daniel Von Weinberger.

Fly necklace!

This room was filled with these. A photo of a market, a quote from the market, and an object from the market, displayed the in the same position as the photo. I really liked this. Some were quite funny, like this one "They still hold breast up rather good." By Yelena Vorobyeva and Viktor Vorobyev.

And this was a small gallery that was looking at recycling in art. It has potential... but it needs work I'd say.

Overall a pretty good gallery experience. Tomorrow I'm heading to bruges for some touristy stuff. Gonna eat chocolate and do the canals. Hopefully the sun shines for  some photos but I think its going to be 11 degrees.
