Day two of the weekend with Uncle John and Carol. Today we went to Versailles. Up early-ish to head to the train station and on to versailles. This was my first time seeing frost. At first I was like OMG SNOW. But Carol set me straight. Its slippery, but my boots did good. A fairly cold morning.
The cute couple on the lovers bridge with the padlocks overlooking the Seine, lovely.
Made it to the RER train, and only had to wait about 5 minutes for the train. Trains here are double decker! Sweet. Here you can see some gypsies getting on... So many people come on and play the accordian and then expect money. Its very strange.
We made it to Versailles. And King Louis the 14th greeted us on his horse.
The first look at the palace is amazing, so much gilding. The fence and gates are very grand.
The second gate, where you line up to get in. Love the crown on the top, he wasnt stuck up at all...
So much work for artists back then. I think I'll time travel. Seems like a better idea.
As you probably dont want to read my every comment on parts of Versailles, I will only comment when necessary or humorous. Enjoy the photos.
Hall of mirrors. Very grand.
Kings bedchambers.
Macaroons! Still didnt buy any, see how strong I am?
Ahhh, lunch, a baguette and a slice of custard pie. Yumyum.
The gardens are massive, the day was freezing so we caught the petit train through the grounds, I'd love to come back in spring to wander the gardens.
Marie Antoinettes place. Everything is pretty special. Its also about here that my camera died, but you didnt miss much else, except everything grand.
And dinner tonight. Thai style chicken and cheese rissoto. Yumyum.
First day at uni tomorrow. Wish me luck!
hey Bonnie lady! Just got caught up reading as I was away over the second half of last week. Dude, I'm so excited about this, so stoked you get to live in the land of pastries and puppies! I hope today has been great, and that you make some sort of food loving friend (a handsome one?) who can help you become a local, and maybe who has an oven. You have my permission to marry him if you feel the need. I miss you hey, can't believe it will be so long till we can talk about food face to face again. Which reminds me, I had the best key lime pie last night made by a new friend who is about to start a patisserie course. it was amazing, but made me miss you.
ReplyDeletei haven't baked in two weeks, it's so wrong.
